Presidents Day was first celebrated in 1879 to commemorate the birthday of General George Washington, who moved to Philadelphia as the first president in 1787. Set within Hamilton Was Here, try on 1790s clothing to visit a recreated scene from his first presidential home, located only blocks away from the Museum.

In the Museum’s core exhibit, see Washington’s War Tent, a dramatic theater presentation of the field tent that served as Washington’s wartime headquarters, and learn who lived and worked under its canvas at a Discovery Cart with hands-on activities about Washington’s social network as General and President.
