CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF FIRST FRIDAY
OLD CITY CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF FIRST FRIDAY WITH NEW DOCUMENTARY SHORT
Old City District marks 30 years of First Friday in Old City, Philadelphia with a new community-produced documentary short, which premiered on First Friday, May 6, 2022. The documentary, titled “30 Years of First Friday,” explores the origins of Old City as a gathering place for the city’s artists since the early 1990s. And it helps audiences better understand how a clever idea for unified neighborhood art openings quickly became a three-decade tradition that has redefined the neighborhood, empowered local artists and galleries, and continues to center Philadelphia as an important and exciting contemporary arts destination.
Old City is Philadelphia’s hub for art and design. This renowned arts district, home to more than 30 art galleries and home décor showrooms, has been designated as one of America’s top ArtPlaces. A broad range of artistic expression is represented in the galleries, and the selection of home design and furnishings includes contemporary, mid-century modern, and exquisite hand-crafted furniture. On the First Friday of the every month, Old City comes alive in celebration as the galleries open new exhibits, design showrooms display their new lines, and businesses stay open late with special programs.
