First Friday at Unique Photo Philly: Chapter Black Book Release By Sammy Rivera

Unique Photo is happy to present Sammy Rivera's latest Photo Book and Gallery: Chapter Black.

Sammy Rivera is a Puerto Rican artist based in Philadelphia, PA. Having graduated from Antonelli Institute of Art & Photography, he is inspired by the likes of Dave Heath, Trevor Clemente, Gregory Halpern and Nazir Wayman, as well as the great collective of 20th century NYC street photographers, abstract painting, hip hop and skateboarding culture, and life in the city.

His work primarily focuses on traditional street photography, as well as various areas of fine art and abstract imagery. Sammy’s latest project, Chapter Black, is a response to a series of unfortunate events that led to the artist losing almost everything and having to start his career over from scratch. It also serves as a narrative on the harsh realities of the world, the emotional changes he underwent and the disconnection he felt from other people, and how that translated into his work. Chapter Black takes the form of three hand bound photobooks, each with accompanying metal boxes, all made completely from scratch; much like the reconstruction of the artist’s career. Chapter Black tells a tale of perseverance, and marks Sammy’s debut as a serious figure in the art and photography world.
