About Old City District and the Neighborhood: Old City District (“OCD”) is a business improvement district established pursuant to Pennsylvania law that provides a range of services and promotional support for one of Philadelphia’s most dynamic and interesting neighborhoods. OCD services a 22-block area bounded by Florist Street to the north, Walnut/Dock Streets to the south, 6th Street to the west and Front Street to the east.
OCD’s mission is to improve Philadelphia's historic district as a place for people to meet, work, shop and live.
Job Description: The Marketing & Events Manager leads all marketing and event initiatives in support of Old City District’s mission and goals. This role requires a dynamic leader who understands the needs of stakeholders and can build awareness by clearly communicating the District’s purpose and priorities. The Marketing & Events Manager is also responsible for developing and managing the District’s overall marketing budget.
The position reports to the Old City District’s Executive Director. The Marketing & Events Manager also works closely with the Old City District’s Board of Directors; the Marketing Committee and its Chairs; and Old City businesses.
Marketing & Communications:
- Lead all marketing initiatives, providing strategic direction, insights, and recommendations in collaboration with the Executive Director and Marketing Committee
- Execute against an established marketing plan, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities
- Evaluate performance and adjust strategies to improve reach, engagement, and impact
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including newsletters, maps, and Old City District’s website
Digital Marketing & Communications:
- Manage and maintain the organization’s website, including creating new content and updating existing pages
- Develop and distribute email communications, including B2B newsletters, stakeholder alerts, and consumer-facing monthly emails
- Monitor and report on digital performance metrics across platforms
Social Media:
- Lead and manage all social media channels, including content planning, creation, scheduling, and publishing
- Develop and execute social media strategies to grow audience, increase engagement, and support key initiatives and events
- Track performance and refine approach based on analytics and trends
- Manage all influencer partnerships and requests
Events:
- Plan, market, and execute key events including Old City Wedding Stroll, Old City Eats Block Party (in partnership with an event producer), seasonal/holiday programming, and Old City business networking events
- Support holiday activations such as tree and menorah lightings in collaboration with partner organizations
- Lead marketing strategy and campaign development for all event announcements and sustained promotion
- Develop post-event recap reports and presentations, analyzing performance and providing strategic recommendations for future improvements Identify and develop new event concepts aligned with organizational goals and budget
- Lead all event sponsorship efforts, including creation of sponsorship packages, outreach to potential partners, and fulfillment of sponsor deliverables
- Collaborate with and support organizations that bring events and visitors to Old City
Public Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for PR consultants, facilitating collaboration between PR partners and local businesses
- Support media outreach and coordinate press opportunities, particularly around events and major initiatives
- Act as a spokesperson when needed, in coordination with the Executive Director
Stakeholder & Community Relations:
- Develop and maintain personal relationships with stakeholders, business owners, and other key constituents in Old City
- Attend stakeholder meetings on behalf of the organization
District Operational/Administrative:
- Coordinate the Marketing Development Committee meetings, including managing the meeting schedule, drafting agendas and minutes, and undertaking research and implementation to support the Committee’s initiatives
- Represent OCD at meetings and events
- Field inquiries and calls from local businesses
- Conduct additional operational tasks as needed at the direction of the Executive Director
Required Skills/Background:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and/or communication
- Effective communication skills, including excellent grammar and writing skills
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
- Self-starter who anticipates needs, takes initiative, and drives projects forward with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with staff, Board members, business owners, and stakeholders in both one-on-one and group settings
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Analytics, WordPress, Constant Contact, and all basic social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn)
- Photography and videography skills are a plus

A laptop will be provided. This position does not provide a cell phone nor compensate cellular, Wi-Fi, and/or data fees.
Working Hours: OCD’s office hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm, excluding holidays. This role is also expected to work at additional times, as appropriate, to attend meetings and events. After a 90-day onboarding period, this position will transition to a hybrid schedule of three days in-office and two days working from home.
Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Also requires mobility to visit business establishments in Old City, and to attend in-person meetings in local area.
Visual Acuity: Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; participating in online meetings including by Zoom; extensive reading.
