Portico Row: A Social History
Take a tour through the social history of Portico Row from its construction in the early 1830s to today. Designed by Thomas U. Walter, Portico Row is comprised of sixteen attached Greek Revival residential buildings on the 900 block of Spruce Street in the Washington Square West neighborhood. Through her exhaustive research, Judith Benedict, a retired urban planner, has documented every resident of the row, from wealthy 19th-century merchants to the 20th-century demi-monde.
