Time & Space: An Unexpected Photography Exhibit by NJ Pinhole Club

PHILADELPHIA, PA —Unique Photo is pleased to host a group photography exhibition featuring works by members of the NJ Pinhole Club in their 4th floor gallery space. The exhibition, “Time and Space”, will be on view throughout March and April, ending on the weekend of Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, an annual celebration of the art of pinhole photography. The exhibit primarily features artists from the tri-state area who actively explore the possibilities of pinhole photography, an 1800’s historical photography process with roots dating back to B.C. times. In addition there will be a large scale slideshow showcasing over 200 artists from 37 different countries who have submitted pinhole images to an open call to join this exhibition. Of those, jurors Chris Marinari and Sharon Harris selected sixteen images to be exhibited in print along with the NJ Pinhole Club Members.

Pinhole Photography is a historic form of photography using a rudimentary lensless camera, often handmade from recycled and reused materials, to capture an image through a small pin-sized hole on light sensitive material. This type of camera lends itself to creating photographs with long exposures and almost infinite depth of field, which is where the title “Time and Space” was derived! Pinhole photography also lends itself to possible light leaks, warped perspectives, and unexpected results. The unique aesthetic is a charming characteristic of pinhole photography that can also be described as mysterious, dreamy, or otherworldly. The exhibit will showcase a variety of photographs from the NJ Pinhole club’s 12 members who are wildly diverse in process and result.

The gallery is located on the 4th floor of Unique Photo’s Old City store at 28 South 2nd Street Philadelphia. The exhibit will be open to the public during regular business hours from March 1 through April 27. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 1:00 - 4:00 with an artist’s talk scheduled at 2:00. You can also join club members for a photo walk through Old City on April 27 from 12:30-3:30.
