HISTORIC HOLIDAYS IN OLD CITY
Celebrate the season in America’s most historic square mile with Historic Holidays in Old City.
A Tree Lighting Ceremony will signal the start of the holiday season in Old City, Philadelphia on Thursday, November 29 from 5:00-8:00pm. The kickoff celebration will take place at the Betsy Ross House courtyard (239 Arch Street) and will feature Betsy Ross, music performances, seasonal sips and bites, and a holiday tree designed by Old City’s Petit Jardin en Ville!
As part of Historic Holidays in Old City, start a charming new holiday tradition with Old City’s Window Decorating Contest! Wander the historic streets of Old City, and view the delightful displays designed by local shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, and more. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite design for a chance to win an Old City Prize Pack. Don’t miss the window display at 24 N. 3rd Street, which features the prizes you can win!
The contest will begin on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 5:00pm and end on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 5:00pm. Click here for information on how to enter and complete contest rules.
The window designs will be on display from November 29 through the New Year.
Also new this year, don’t miss the Old City Holiday Market, presented by Fezziwig’s Sweet Shoppe! The weekend pop-up Holiday Market, organized by local businesses and located at The Clay Studio’s parking lot (137-139 N. 2nd Street), will feature trees, wreaths, and other holiday greenery by Petit Jardin en Ville, one-of-a-kind gifts from some of Old City’s shops and galleries, and seasonal sips and bites from local restaurants!

The Old City Holiday Market will take place every Saturday and Sunday, 11:00am - 7:00pm, November 24 through December 23. The Holiday Market will also be open for First Friday, December 7, 5:00-9:00pm.
The Betsy Ross House courtyard will also be home to a community menorah, with a lighting ceremony hosted by the Old City Jewish Arts Center from 4:00-5:00pm on Sunday, December 2. Throughout the season, activities, including Colonial chocolate making, performances by local choirs and more will add to the festive feel at the House. The ever-popular New Year’s Eve celebration of Betsy’s birthday closes out the celebration, 11-4 p.m. on Monday, December 31.
